Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives (CBRNE) Terrorism Awareness and Medical Emergency Consequence Management Workshop

he Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives (CBRNE) Terrorism Awareness and Medical  Emergency Consequence Management Workshop was conducted at the International Islamic University Malaysia from 19 to 21 September 2025. This comprehensive three-day workshop was organised by SEARCCT in partnership with the Fire and Rescue Department, Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital as well as Pahang State Health Department. A total of 100 participants attended, comprised of medical practitioners from various regions of Pahang.

The workshop featured expert-led sessions on various aspects of CBRNE terrorism, including overviews of terrorist tactics and mass casualty management. These informative sessions were conducted by distinguished professionals from the military, academia and specialised departments. They provided both theoretical insights and practical knowledge, using interactive briefings and case studies to enhance the understanding on how to respond to terrorist-related emergencies effectively.

In the final days, participants engaged in demonstrations on decontamination procedures and personal protective equipment (PPE) usage, led by the Fire and Rescue Department. The workshop concluded with a hazard assessment exercise that simulated realistic terrorist-related scenarios, allowing participants to apply their newly acquired skills. The workshop wrapped up with a closing ceremony, with certificates being awarded to recognise participants’ proficiency in managing CBRNE terrorism and emergencies.
